The National Testing Agency (NTA) has opened the application process for Joint Entrance Examination (Main) 2027 Session 1, scheduled for January 2027. The application window opened on 24 October 2026. Candidates should complete the regular application and fee payment by 22 November 2026 at 11:50 PM. NTA has also issued a registration advisory dated 28 October 2026 asking candidates to use their own digital identity credentials, complete DigiLocker re-KYC before filling out the form, and ensure that their name and date of birth match their Class 10 certificate or marksheet.

JEE Main is used for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes at participating institutions and is also the qualifying examination for JEE Advanced. Paper 2A and Paper 2B cover B.Arch and B.Planning admissions. This guide brings together the official dates, registration instructions, eligibility rules and examination information for candidates preparing to apply.

What Is the New NTA Advisory About DigiLocker Re-KYC?

NTA issued a separate advisory on 28 October 2026 to reduce identity-verification discrepancies during the JEE Main 2027 registration process. It gives three important instructions:

  1. Use your own digital identity account. Candidates are advised to log in using their own DigiLocker, JanParichay or e-Pramaan (MeriPehchaan) credentials. Using another person's account may create identity-verification or biometric-data discrepancies later.
  2. Complete DigiLocker re-KYC before filling out the form. NTA advises candidates to complete re-KYC so that the latest details are fetched during registration.
  3. Match the Class 10 record. The candidate's name and date of birth in the JEE Main application must be the same as those recorded on the Class 10 certificate or marksheet.

Before starting the application, check the spelling of your name, date of birth and other identity details. If your digital identity record is outdated, follow the official DigiLocker re-KYC process before proceeding. Do not enter a different name or date of birth merely to make the form match another document.

Who Is Eligible to Appear for JEE Main 2027?

The Information Bulletin states that there is no age limit for appearing in JEE Main 2027. However, the qualifying-examination year is restricted.

Candidates are eligible to appear if they:

  • Passed the Class 12 or equivalent examination in 2025 or 2026; or
  • Are appearing in the Class 12 or equivalent examination in 2027.

Candidates who passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination in 2024 or earlier are not eligible to appear for JEE Main 2027 under the bulletin's year-of-appearance rule.

The bulletin lists recognised qualifying examinations and explains equivalence requirements for candidates with qualifications from outside India, open schooling or other routes. Check the full eligibility chapter if your qualification is not a standard Class 12 certificate.

Eligibility to sit for JEE Main is not a guarantee of admission. Institutes and counselling authorities may apply separate admission conditions, so check the relevant institute and JoSAA/CSAB rules.

JEE Main 2027 Papers and Examination Pattern

JEE Main 2027 has two broad paper groups:

  • Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.): Used for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions and participating institutions. It is also the qualifying examination for JEE Advanced.
  • Paper 2A (B.Arch.): For candidates seeking admission to Bachelor of Architecture programmes.
  • Paper 2B (B.Planning): For candidates seeking admission to Bachelor of Planning programmes.

Paper 1 is conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. It contains Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The NTA notice lists 75 questions in total: 20 multiple-choice questions and 5 numerical-value questions for each subject. The bulletin states that negative marking applies to incorrect answers in both Section A and Section B.

For Paper 1 or either Paper 2 separately, the examination duration is three hours. Candidates taking both B.Arch and B.Planning papers together have a three-hour-thirty-minute duration, as specified in the bulletin. The examination is offered in 13 languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

JEE Main 2027 Application Fee

The Information Bulletin provides different fees by category, gender and paper combination. The following table shows the fee for one selected paper at examination centres in India:

Candidate category Male Female
General ₹1,000 ₹800
General-EWS / OBC-NCL ₹900 ₹800
SC / ST / PwD / PwBD ₹500 ₹500

For the combinations of two or more papers, the fee is higher. For example, the bulletin lists ₹2,000 for male and ₹1,600 for female General/Gen-EWS/OBC-NCL candidates selecting the specified multi-paper combinations; the corresponding SC/ST/PwD/PwBD fee is ₹1,000. Third-gender candidates have a separate fee entry in the official table. Candidates applying from centres outside India have different fee amounts.

An additional ₹500 late fee applies during the late application window, over and above the applicable category-wise examination fee. Payment gateway charges and GST, where applicable, are extra. Always confirm the amount displayed in your own application before paying.

Additional documents, such as a disability or UDID certificate, are required where applicable. Follow the exact format and file-size instructions shown in the bulletin and portal.

Step 6: Pay the examination fee

Pay online using an available method such as UPI, debit card, credit card or net banking. Check the amount and category before confirming the transaction.

The application is considered complete only after successful fee payment. Download and save the confirmation page and payment proof. If payment is successful but the confirmation page is not generated, follow the payment-help instructions in the bulletin and contact the official helpdesk.

Documents and Details to Keep Ready

Keep your Class 10 certificate or marksheet, Class 12 qualification details, your own digital identity login, photograph, live-photograph facility, scanned signature, applicable disability/UDID certificate, active contact details and an online payment method ready. Use only your own photograph, signature and identity credentials.

Common Registration Mistakes to Avoid

  • Starting the form before completing the advised DigiLocker re-KYC.
  • Using a parent's or another person's digital identity account instead of your own.
  • Entering a name or date of birth that differs from the Class 10 record.
  • Selecting the wrong paper or examination city.
  • Uploading an unclear photograph, signature or certificate.
  • Submitting more than one application form. NTA warns that multiple applications may lead to cancellation.
