The online application window for JEE (Main) 2027 Session 1 opened on 24 October 2026. Candidates planning to appear in the January 2027 examination should complete registration through the official National Testing Agency (NTA) portal and read the information bulletin before submitting the form. The regular application and fee-payment deadline is 22 November 2026 at 11:50 p.m. IST.
The most important point is to use the official portal, submit only one application, and save the confirmation page after successful fee payment. A form that is filled but not successfully submitted with the required payment should not be treated as a completed application.

What is JEE Main used for?
JEE Main is the national entrance examination used for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes such as B.E. and B.Tech. at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions and participating institutions. The B.E./B.Tech. paper is also an eligibility route for JEE Advanced, the examination used for admission to the IITs. JEE Main Paper 2 covers B.Arch. and B.Planning programmes.
For 2027, NTA has planned two sessions: Session 1 in January and Session 2 in April. A candidate can take one or both sessions. According to the bulletin, if a candidate appears in both sessions, the better NTA score is considered for preparation of the merit list/ranking. Candidates should still check the admission requirements of their preferred institutions separately; appearing in JEE Main does not by itself guarantee admission.
Who can apply for JEE Main 2027?
The NTA bulletin states that candidates who passed the Class 12 or equivalent examination in 2025 or 2026, or who are appearing in Class 12/equivalent in 2027, are eligible to appear in JEE Main 2027. The bulletin says there is no age limit for appearing in the examination. However, a university or institute may have its own admission conditions, so check those rules before selecting a course.
The bulletin lists recognised Class 12 or equivalent qualifications, including examinations conducted by recognised central or state boards. It also lists certain equivalent qualifications. If your qualification was completed outside India or through a board not specifically listed, read the bulletin carefully and confirm the equivalence requirements before applying.
Do not confuse eligibility to sit the test with eligibility for a particular programme. Subject combinations, minimum marks and other admission conditions can differ by institution and course. Use the NTA bulletin for examination eligibility and the relevant institute/JoSAA/CSAB notices for admission rules.
JEE Main 2027 application fee
The fee depends on the paper or paper combination, category, gender and examination centre. For candidates choosing one paper at centres in India, the bulletin lists these examples:
Candidate category | Male | Female |
|---|---|---|
General | ₹1,000 | ₹800 |
Gen-EWS / OBC-NCL | ₹900 | ₹800 |
SC / ST / PwD / PwBD | ₹500 | ₹500 |
The fee for multiple papers is higher. Third-gender candidates have separate fee entries in the bulletin, and fee amounts differ for examination centres outside India. Payment-gateway processing charges and applicable GST may be extra. Use the exact fee table in the current bulletin for your category, paper selection and centre rather than relying on a generic fee chart.
NTA accepts online payment through the listed modes, including debit card, credit card, net banking and UPI. Keep the transaction reference and confirm that the application confirmation page is generated after payment.
Documents and details to prepare before filling the form
Preparing files first can reduce mistakes and last-minute delays. The 2027 bulletin specifies the following uploads or details where applicable:
A live photograph captured during the application process.
A recent scanned passport-size photograph in JPG/JPEG format, 10 KB to 200 KB, with the face clearly visible against a white background.
A scanned signature in JPG/JPEG format, 10 KB to 100 KB.
A Class 10 or equivalent certificate/marksheet as a PDF, 50 KB to 300 KB.
A disability/UDID certificate or certificate regarding physical limitation to write, where applicable, in the prescribed PDF size range.
A non-Indian passport for foreign nationals, including OCI candidates, where required by the bulletin.
Accurate personal, contact, address, educational qualification, category and examination-city details.
The portal may ask for details beyond this checklist depending on your circumstances. Follow the live form and bulletin. Ensure the mobile number and email address are accessible to you or your parent/guardian, because NTA uses the registered contact details for communications.
How to apply online
1. Open the official JEE Main portal
Go directly to jeemain.nta.nic.in. Avoid third-party pages that imitate an application portal or ask you to share passwords or one-time passwords.
2. Complete registration and save the application number
Follow the registration process shown on the portal. Record the system-generated application number and create a password that meets the stated requirements. Keep the credentials private; you will need them for subsequent logins and future correspondence.
3. Fill in the form carefully
Enter your name, date of birth, contact details, qualifying examination information, state of eligibility, category and selected paper(s) exactly as required. Select examination cities carefully and upload your own photograph, signature and certificates in the specified formats. Do not submit multiple forms: NTA warns that more than one application can lead to action, including cancellation.
4. Pay the correct fee
Check the fee table for your selected paper(s), category and centre. Complete payment through an available online mode and keep the transaction reference. If payment appears successful but the confirmation page does not appear, follow the bulletin's payment-status and helpdesk instructions instead of immediately making repeated payments without checking.
5. Download the confirmation page
A successful fee transaction is required for a completed application. Download and save the confirmation page as a PDF, keep a backup and note the application number. This is an important record if you need to contact NTA or later access your application.
What happens after registration?
After the regular application window, NTA has listed a late-submission period and then a correction window. The correction window is not permission to submit a second form, and only fields enabled by NTA may be changed. Review the form before final submission instead of depending on later corrections.
The bulletin lists 30 December 2026 for the city-intimation slip and 13 January 2027 for admit-card download. These are separate steps: a city slip is not the admit card. Candidates should download the admit card from the official website when it is available and read all instructions about reporting time, permitted items, identification and exam-centre rules.
For preparation, use the syllabus linked from the official portal, practise timed papers and review mistakes by subject. Do not let form filling disrupt study time: complete the administrative steps early, then keep a consistent revision and mock-test schedule. If you plan to sit Session 2 as well, note its separate application window in the bulletin: 5 January to 3 February 2027, with a late window listed for 4–7 February 2027. Check the separate public notice when Session 2 registration becomes active.
Common mistakes to avoid
Waiting until the last day to register or pay the fee.
Uploading a photograph or signature outside the stated file-size and format limits.
Entering an incorrect passing year or state of eligibility.
Selecting the wrong paper combination or exam city.
Assuming that fee payment alone is enough without downloading the confirmation page.
Submitting multiple applications.
Treating the city-intimation slip as the admit card.
Trusting unofficial messages that promise guaranteed admission or ask for login credentials.
