Last verified: 28 October 2026. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is accepting examination applications for the SWAYAM July 2026 semester. The application window closes on 31 October 2026 at 11:50 p.m. Candidates who have already enrolled in eligible July-semester SWAYAM courses should complete the separate NTA examination-registration process before the deadline.

NTA's public notice dated 9 October 2026 covers 662 courses. The examination is scheduled from 8 to 12 December 2026 in computer-based test (CBT) mode. The fee-payment deadline is 1 November, while the correction window is scheduled for 2 and 3 November 2026. These are separate milestones: submitting the form by 31 October does not mean that the fee can be paid after the payment deadline without checking the portal's rules.

This guide explains who can register, how course enrolment differs from examination registration, the fee structure, the test pattern and the steps candidates should complete before submitting the form.

What is SWAYAM?

Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) is a Government of India online learning programme intended to make structured learning resources available to learners across the country. Courses are offered through the SWAYAM platform by national coordinators and participating institutions. The July 2026 semester includes courses from a range of subject areas and institutions.

For this examination cycle, NTA is responsible for the examination-related process: accepting examination applications, issuing admit cards, conducting the test, preparing and declaring results, and hosting score cards. Course content, course enrolment and course-related academic matters remain connected to the relevant SWAYAM national coordinator or institution.

Who is eligible for the July 2026 examination?

The information bulletin states that a learner who has enrolled in one of the 662 courses offered in the July 2026 semester is eligible to appear in the examination for that course. The examination form is therefore not a general entrance application for someone who has not enrolled in an eligible July-semester course.

Candidates should confirm the exact course title and course ID against the official course list. The bulletin also states that, for a certificate and credit transfer, a learner must obtain at least 40% in the NTA term-end written examination and 40% in the internal assessment separately. Meeting the written-test threshold alone is not enough if the internal-assessment requirement is not met.

A learner may choose up to 10 examination papers, but only one course can be selected in each shift. Before selecting multiple courses, compare their course-wise dates and shifts in Annexure II of the bulletin. Two courses scheduled in the same shift cannot both be taken by the same candidate.

Course enrolment and examination registration are different

Course enrolment on SWAYAM and NTA examination registration are separate steps. First enrol in an eligible July 2026 course, then complete the examination form on the NTA portal.

NTA instructs candidates to use the same email ID for course enrolment, assignments and examination registration. Assignments submitted through another email ID may not count towards the final score and certificate.

Official portals:

SWAYAM July 2026 examination fee

The NTA information bulletin gives the following examination fees. The fee is charged per course, so candidates selecting additional courses should calculate the total before paying.

Category First course Each additional course
General (UR) ₹750 ₹600
Gen-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD/PwBD ₹500 ₹400

Applicable payment-gateway or bank service charges and GST are extra. The bulletin refers candidates to its payment annexure for the applicable charges. Use the amount displayed on the official payment page as the final payable amount.

For example, a General-category candidate selecting two courses would pay the first-course fee and the additional-course fee, before any applicable service charges and taxes. A candidate in one of the listed concession categories should use the corresponding fee row. OBC candidates should check the Central OBC-NCL requirement described in the bulletin; a state-list OBC status alone may not qualify for the OBC-NCL fee category.

How to apply for the SWAYAM July 2026 examination

The examination application is online only. Keep your application details, course information and scanned documents ready before beginning.

  1. Open the official NTA SWAYAM portal and read the July 2026 information bulletin.
  2. Select the online application option and complete candidate registration. Note the system-generated application number and keep the password secure.
  3. Sign in and complete the application form using the same email ID associated with the SWAYAM course enrolment.
  4. Select the eligible course or courses. Check the course ID, exam date and shift in the official schedule before confirming each selection.
  5. Choose the examination centre preferences. The bulletin requires four city choices in order of preference. Select them carefully; a centre may not operate if too few candidates choose that city.
  6. Upload the required photograph, signature and applicable certificate files in the specified format and size.
  7. Review the preview page, including personal details, category, course selection and city preferences.
  8. Pay the examination fee through an available online payment method and verify that the transaction is successful.
  9. Download and retain the confirmation page and payment proof. The confirmation page is an important record of successful submission.

Do not submit multiple application forms. NTA says only one application should be submitted by a candidate. If a payment is debited but the confirmation page is not generated, follow the payment instructions in the bulletin and contact the designated payment provider or NTA helpdesk before making another payment.

Photograph, signature and document requirements

The bulletin specifies a recent passport-size photograph in JPG/JPEG format, between 10 KB and 200 KB. The face should be clearly visible, with 80% of the face visible including the ears, without a mask, against a white background. The signature should be a legible JPG/JPEG file between 10 KB and 50 KB. Applicable PwD/PwBD or UDID documentation should be uploaded in PDF format within the size limits stated in the bulletin.

Use your own photograph and signature. Avoid blurry images, cropped signatures or files that exceed the permitted size. If the portal requests a document for a particular category or concession, upload the correct current document rather than an unrelated certificate.

Exam pattern and marking scheme

The July 2026 examination is conducted in CBT mode. The bulletin lists 662 courses and two broad question structures:

  • For 72 courses, the paper contains 100 multiple-choice questions, carrying one mark each.
  • For 590 courses, the paper contains 50 multiple-choice questions, carrying two marks each.

Both structures carry 100 marks and have a duration of three hours. The question paper is generally in English, except language papers, which are conducted in the respective language. The bulletin states that there is no negative marking for wrong answers in the MCQ sections. Unanswered questions receive no marks.

The exact course paper, question count and shift should be checked in Annexure II. Do not rely on a generic exam-pattern summary when planning a particular course paper.

Admit card, exam city and result

NTA has not specified a confirmed release date for the city-intimation information or admit card in the public notice dated 9 October. The bulletin says these details will be announced later on the official website. Candidates should therefore avoid unofficial claims that a city slip or admit card is already available.

Once the admit card is released, check the candidate's name, photograph, course, examination date, shift, centre address and reporting instructions. The exam date and shift printed on the admit card take precedence for the candidate's actual appearance. Carry the permitted identity proof and any other items specified in the admit-card instructions.

The result date is also to be announced. The final score and certificate are to be provided by the respective national coordinator after the final proctored examinations and result process. Candidates should follow both NTA and the relevant course coordinator for post-examination updates.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Confusing course enrolment on SWAYAM with NTA examination registration.
  • Using a different email ID for assignments and the examination form.
  • Selecting courses without checking whether their examination shifts overlap.
  • Leaving the four examination-city preferences incomplete.
  • Uploading an oversized or unclear photograph or signature.
  • Assuming that the fee-payment deadline is the same as the application deadline.

Frequently asked questions
